The 2010 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships for men
and women will be held at one of Rotterdam’s premier venues,
Ahoy Rotterdam. Centrally located in the most densely
populated part of the country, the Ahoy arena and adjacent
buildings are the top indoor venue in Rotterdam and
surroundings, which has hosted innumerable sporting events,
pop and rock concerts, shows, fairs and other large events.
All facilities required at major sporting events like the
Artistic Gymnastics World Championships are readily
available, making Ahoy the venue of choice for a top event
like this.
In 2010 part of Ahoy will be renovated. It will be overhauled and
expanded to create a maximum seating capacity of some 8,238 on the
first and second rings of the main arena. Prior to the Gymnastics
World Championships, seven training gyms (including a warm-up gym)
will be realised in a large hall adjacent to the arena. Other halls
(likewise adjacent to the arena) will host the press centre, a
restaurant for visitors, another restaurant for participants,
coaches, judges and members of the press, and temporary
accommodation for volunteers.
